"Just let it go"... but how?

3 min read

Do you ever find yourself wondering what it is within you that needs healing? or where to even begin?

We all carry something. Wounds, moments of loss, experiences that left an imprint.

Some are obvious. Others sit quietly beneath the surface, shaping how we think, feel, and move through life. over time, without even realising it, the weight of it all piles up.

The past, the stories, the emotions, It becomes baggage. That baggage can feel heavy.

Heavy in the mind. Heavy in the body. Heavy in the heart.

We long to feel lighter… freer… more at ease within ourselves.

But how?

“Just let it go…”

Have you ever been told that? I have, and I remember thinking… But how?

How do you let go of something that feels so real, so present, something you feel so deeply?

For a long time, there was no clear answer.

Until I was introduced to the principles of Mindfulness and Presence.

The Weight We Carry

The truth is: what we carry, makes us wait. It delays the peace we long for. It keeps us stuck in cycles of thought and emotion. It holds us back from fully experiencing life as it is, right now.

Emotionally, mentally, and often physically too.

So naturally, the question arises:

Where do we start?

Do we go back? Dig into the past, analysing everything that has ever happened?

Or do we begin somewhere else?

A Simpler, More Liberating Way

What I have come to learn is this:

Healing does not begin by going backwards. It begins here. In the present moment.

Yes, there is value in becoming aware of what has shaped us. We do need to bring the unconscious into conscious awareness, because we cannot create something new from the same level of consciousness that created the suffering in the first place.

But healing itself… happens now.

The First Steps to Healing

There is a simple, powerful process:

1. Awareness

Without awareness, nothing can change.

If we are not present to what is happening within us as it is happening, we get pulled into:

  • Past regret, guilt, shame, bitterness

  • Future fear, anxiety, and anticipation

Awareness brings us back. Back to what is real. Back to what is here.

And most importantly, it shows us what is ready to be seen.

2. Acceptance

Once we are aware, the next step is often the most transformative.

Acceptance. Not approval. Not resignation.

But a willingness to allow what is.

To stop resisting. To stop clinging. To stop adding stories, judgement, or meaning.

Simply to let it be.

In that space something powerful happens.

The struggle softens. The resistance dissolves. The emotional charge begins to lose its grip.

There is nothing left for it to fight against.

That’s where clarity arises. Naturally. Effortlessly.

So… What Needs Healing First?

This is the question so many people ask, and the answer is simpler than we expect.

Whatever is arising in the present moment.

That is your starting point.

Not the past. Not what you think should be healed.

But what is here… now.

What you feel. What is being triggered. What is asking for your attention.

Life will show you. Moment by moment.

Healing, One Moment at a Time

When you begin to live this way you no longer need to carry everything.

You don’t need to fix your entire past.

You simply meet what arises:

With awareness. With acceptance. With presence.

And gently… over time… the weight begins to lift.

Bit by bit.

Moment by moment.

You feel lighter. More free. More yourself.

A Gentle Reminder

You don’t have to rush. You don’t have to force. You don’t have to go searching.

Just be here.

Be aware. Be open. Be willing to allow.

And let life unfold through you… not against you.

And perhaps most importantly…

Live your life fully.

Love unconditionally.

Laugh wholeheartedly.

Time is precious. Don’t spend it lost in the past, or waiting for the future.

Today is all you truly have and it will never come again.

So don’t miss it.

As someone once said… Don’t miss the dance.
