When life shakes you, what spills out?

Today I would like to share a story from Thich Nhat Hanh with you...
You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.
Why did you spill the coffee?
"Because someone bumped into me."
Wrong answer.
You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.
When life comes along and shakes you, and it will, whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it until you get rattled.
So we must ask ourselves: What's in my cup?
When life gets tough, what spills over?
Joy, gratitude, peace, and humility?
Or anger, bitterness, harsh words, and reactions?
Life provides the cup. You choose how to fill it.
Today, let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, kindness, gentleness, and love for others.
This story speaks volumes about so many aspects of life. Firstly, it highlights the importance of being aware of what we are carrying around and redistributing, which can cause harm to ourselves and others, often unintentionally.
Secondly, it underscores the value of living a mindful life, being consciously aware of how we are feeling, thinking, and behaving. This awareness gives us the ability to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively.
As we embark on the timeless journey of ageless living, let us embrace each moment with a heart overflowing with love, kindness, laughter, and beauty. May our footsteps leave behind a bountiful trail of joy, compassion, and wisdom, inspiring others to live their lives to the fullest.
May our story be a testament to the power of embracing life's challenges with grace, and finding the eternal fountain of youth within our hearts.
With every passing day, let us radiate the essence of ageless living, reminding the world that true vitality lies not in our years, but in the depth of our love, the warmth of our smiles, and the richness of our souls.
Let us consciously choose what we allow to spill over into our lives.
With presence,
Shirley
